Character Information
Name: Ganieda of Britain, twin sister of Merlin (though he is slightly older)
Age: 21
Fandom: British Mythology (http://www.ancienttexts.org/library/ce ltic/ctexts/merlini.html)
Point In Fandom Taken From: Just before her marriage
Brief History: Merlin and Ganieda were born of a devout Christian mother and an incubus. To counter this, both were baptized and put into training with monks and pagan wizards alike. While at first reluctant to use her magic, Merlin soon helped his little sister discover and find the joy in her own magic. The two were nearly inseperable until word of Merlin's fame grew, and he was sent out to travel the whole of Britain. Stories came back to Avalon of Merlin's adventures, and Ganieda waited to hear them like a thirsty woman waiting for a drink. But she missed her brother, and he came to visit so rarely. When they were together, it seemed that the sun could not set on her happiness and when he left, it was as if the sun had set for always.
She spent her time alone in exploring the island Avalon, and in working on her own magic: in time, she became as accomplished as her brother, and she longed to tell him of her own accomplishments. She wanted to see his face light, longed to see him pleased with her. As time went on, the tales of his adventures grew more dire, news of intrigues and the beginnings of wars, danger and strife. Though she did not fear for her brother's life, for she knew he was clever and strong in battle, she knew that the visits from now on would be brief, if at all, and she must accept this and do her duty to her country.
Eventually, she was courted by a king ten years older than she: Rodarch, King of Cumbria. He was a good king, and fair, and though she did not love him, she consented to the marriage, for it was her duty to marry, as a princess of her land.
She only hoped that Merlin would arrive in time for the wedding.
Personality: Ganieda is sweet and caring and loving. But she is also tricky, and loves mischief. She's very magic, and if she has nothing serious to do, she will play with it to her heart's content. She means no harm...but sometimes does it unintentionally. She will correct her misdeeds with apologies and a pleasant demeanor. She is a good listener, and will hear your tales of woe and sorrow patiently. And tomorrow, you might find your woe resolved...or not. It mostly depends on her whim.
After being stuck on an island with monks and priests, she is all too ready for a party, any time and at all times. She knows many small, amusing spells to make things pretty and fun.
Though she has been courted, she has never been kissed. Bards have sung songs about her beauty, her eyes and hair, even her smile. She is very sensual, and loves to explore whatever sense is being stimulated at the time, sight, hearing, taste or touch or smell.
She is terribly vain at times, and does not like to hear that anyone else is prettier than she, although while in a generous mood, she will admit that herself.
But one must never forget that she is a powerful sorceress in her own right. While her temper is slow to rise, when it is stirred, it burns strong and brightly. Woe be to the person who incurs Ganeida's wrath.
The only thing that bothers her terribly about her past is the mystery of her birth. She often worries about being tempted to evil, and it's when she's angry that she fears this the most.
Aside from having a slow temper, she sometimes has times of melancholy, usually when she is alone and idle. She tries to get through these times by keeping busy and pretending her happiness. Those who care for her can usually see through this ruse.
